Why include letters and self-published stories ?

There are actually several reasons why I decided to include letters on this page.  First, though, I should clarify that this is not an exhaustive list of all my letters to the editor.  It simply includes the one's that hold some importance for me.  Their inclusion all began with a suggestion from an English professor at Western Oregon University in Monmouth.  It was his opinion that the letters added depth and variety to the deeper subjects covered in the articles.  After giving it some thought, I ended-up agreeing with his suggestion.  If you have time to read the letters, you'll also notice changes and shifts at times as my perspectives change and mature--e.g. when we left the Episcopal tradition for the Roman Catholic Church in 2005.  Truth be known, some of my longer letters (like my last in TR) are more like articles than a typical 150-word letter to the editor.

The other reason....  Well, if there's one thing I hate, it's keeping lots of papers around.  I like things neat and orderly, and I'm afraid that the inclusion of the letters (along with the "pending" designation on articles) also serves as a kind of public reminder for yours truly!

Selelct self-published stories will be included for a similar reason.  Of course, self-published works don't carry quite the same significance as works published in the more traditional method.  Still, they offer a greater insight into what I like to write about--as well as adding a welcomed variety to the list.

Finally, I can honestly say that while I enjoy writing essays and articles, I don't particularly enjoy the rest of the business so much.  That being the case, I have come to the personal decision that my professional writing will really be geared more in the direction of the fiction market at this present time.  If you'd like to read more of my articles, feel free to drop me a note--and visit my new blog, The Singing in the Wood
